Weekly Walkable Roundup: June 30-July 6, 2025

Welcome back to my series, where I explore cities one walk at a time.

Each week, I share a simple mix: one place that caught my eye, one walk shaped by a small theme—sometimes a color, sometimes a mood or a detail—and one prompt you can carry into your own walk, wherever you are.

Whether you’re wandering through Salt Lake, Provo, or somewhere else entirely, I hope this helps you slow down and see your city differently.

Walkable Find of the Week: The Book Mural in Downtown Salt Lake City

This week’s find is a mural made entirely of painted book spines, stacked like a giant bookshelf on the side of a downtown building.

There’s something quiet and lovely about it, like a public love letter to stories. The titles are a mix of classics and local references.

This mural is kind of hidden and can be hard to find. You can find instructions on how to find it, starting at the Gallivan Plaza Station, here.

Themed Walk: Making My Way Downtown

These photos are from Open Streets SLC, during the last weekend of June. With the roads closed to cars, downtown transformed into a place for people—strolling, biking, dining, dancing, and just existing outside.

Walking down the center of the street felt surreal. You could hear live music echoing through the streets, patios spilled into the road, and even the crosswalks felt like part of the scene. “Making My Way Downtown” felt like an appropriate theme. There was motion, rhythm, and a lot to notice along the way.

Walking Prompt of the Week: Walk a block (or two) that you usually drive.

Take it slow. Notice what’s planted, painted, posted.
See if something surprises you—maybe it’s a mural, maybe it’s a mailbox, or maybe it's something totally unexpected.
