Weekly Walkable Roundup: June 17–23
One walkable find. One color. One prompt to get you moving.
There’s something grounding about having a weekly ritual. For me, it’s a simple mix: one place that caught my eye, one walk shaped by a small theme—which this week's was the color yellow—and one prompt to carry into your own walk, wherever you are.
This post marks the first in a new series I’m calling the Weekly Walkable Roundup, where I share one favorite find and a themed walk from the past week. This time, the focus was yellow, but each week might bring something different: a color, a shape, a feeling, or just a new way of noticing. It’s short, visual, and meant to help you see your city a little differently—whether you’re wandering through Provo, Salt Lake, or elsewhere.
Walkable Find of the Week
📍City of Industry
280 E 900 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84111
If you follow me on TikTok, you might’ve seen my post about this place already, so naturally, I had to include it here too. It’s located right along 900 S, just steps away from the 9 bus stop and a short walk from the 900 S TRAX station (Green and Red Lines), and it’s full of joyfully curated finds.
Inside, you’ll find everything from tiny stickers to greeting cards to journals and pens you actually want to write with. There’s a whole wall of to-do list pads (some funny, some serious), beautifully illustrated washi tapes, and hard-to-find pens like Pentel's Mattehop—winner of Japan’s Stationery Grand Award in 2024.
It feels like a little creative recharge in shop form. Whether you’re just window shopping or building your dream pencil pouch, this stop is worth the detour. What I love most is that everything feels intentional and full of charm.
Prompted Walk Snapshot
The theme for this walk: Yellow
This was from last week, but I haven't stopped thinking about it since. For this walk, I decided to focus on yellow—just to see where it might show up. I wandered through 1100 East, not expecting much. Maybe a painted curb or a fire hydrant. But once I started looking, yellow was everywhere.
It peeked out from wild sunflowers behind wire fences. It brightened up flyers taped to utility poles. I noticed it in the glow of porch lights, in the faded trim on old houses, in the tree branches, and in the body of a parked car—the kind that practically demands a second glance. And of course: caution signs, bike lane markings, and curbside fruit crates, all dressed in goldenrod, lemon, ochre, and school-bus bright.
Tuning into one theme, even something as simple as a color, completely shifted the pace of my walk. I slowed down. Looked closer. Started to see contrast, pattern, and texture where I normally might not. Familiar blocks felt like they had something new to say.
If you’ve never tried a themed walk before, yellow is a great way to begin. It’s bold, happy, and easy to find once you let your surroundings surprise you.
🚶♀️ Walking Prompt
This week’s prompt: Look for yellow.
On your next walk, let yellow be your guide. Look for it in signs, plants, clothing, murals, packaging—anything that catches your eye. You don’t need to document it (though feel free to snap a photo or two); just notice it. See how many shades you can find: buttery soft yellow, sharp neon, pale gold, mustard brown. Where does it surprise you? Where does it repeat?
You don’t have to go far—just a short loop in your neighborhood can reveal more color than you expect. The goal isn’t to be productive. It’s just to see more clearly.
